Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has commenced an investigation into the academic credentials of one of its professors, Arc. Abdullahi Abubakar, following widespread attention generated by claims about his qualifications on social media.
The university said it was aware of the viral reports concerning the professor’s academic profile and would make its position known after completing the necessary verification process.
The Director of the Directorate of Public Affairs, ABU, Awwal Umar, confirmed the development, saying the institution would not rush to conclusions until the facts had been properly established.
According to reports circulating online, Prof. Abubakar’s academic profile includes five PhDs, five master’s degrees, seven other degrees and 11 diplomas, among other qualifications.
The claims have attracted significant public interest, particularly because of his position at the university and his involvement in teaching, research and other academic activities.
Efforts to obtain a direct response from the professor were unsuccessful, as repeated telephone calls were unanswered. However, he acknowledged receiving a text message seeking his comments but declined to respond immediately.
“Yours refers and noted, but not for now. Thank you,” he reportedly replied.
The professor did not state when he would provide further clarification on the qualifications attributed to him.
ABU is expected to announce its findings after completing the verification process.
