The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that 3,867,997 Nigerians successfully completed the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise by the end of Week 11 of Phase III, with women accounting for the majority of new registrants.
According to the electoral body, 2,037,589 women, representing 52.68 percent of the total registrations, enrolled during the exercise, while 1,830,408 men, or 47.32 percent, registered.
INEC said 1,170,134 registrations were completed online, while 2,697,863 were carried out at physical registration centres across the country.
Young Nigerians between the ages of 18 and 34 made up the largest share of new voters, with 2,602,960 registrations (67.29 percent). The 35–49 age group recorded 843,757 registrants (21.81 percent), while 386,095 people aged 50–69 registered. Those aged 70 and above accounted for 35,185 registrations.
Students emerged as the largest occupational group among the new voters, with 892,946 registrations, followed by business owners with 810,452. Other registered groups included farmers and fishers, housewives, artisans, traders, civil servants, and public servants.
INEC also reported that 41,092 persons with disabilities completed the registration process, with applicants from various disability categories participating in the exercise.
State-by-state figures showed that Kano recorded the highest number of completed registrations with 330,906, followed by Lagos, Delta, Edo, Ebonyi, and Sokoto. Ekiti recorded the fewest registrations, while no voter registration was conducted in Osun State because of the upcoming governorship election, in line with the Electoral Act.
The commission noted that the total of 3,867,997 registrations remains provisional and will undergo a data-cleaning process, including claims, objections, and biometric verification, before the final voters' register is published.
