The Kwara State Police Command has arrested a woman, Sadiat Yunusa, for allegedly killing a three-year-old girl, Ummaiyat Y., in Kaiama Local Government Area of the state.
According to the Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, the incident was reported on July 25, 2026, after the child was found dead under suspicious circumstances. Police investigations revealed that the victim had been left with a family member while her mother went to Kaiama Central Market.
Investigators allege that the suspect lured the child to a nearby farm settlement, where she allegedly strangled her to death.
The police said swift investigations led to the arrest of the suspect, who reportedly confessed during interrogation. According to the command, she claimed the act was driven by resentment and jealousy stemming from a long-running domestic dispute, alleging that her husband had neglected her and her three children in favour of his second wife.
The suspect has since been charged to court, while the Kwara State Police Command assured residents of its commitment to thoroughly investigating and prosecuting criminal offences across the state.
