Two Dead, Dozens Injured After Fire Engulfs German Hospital

Two patients have died and 34 others were injured after a fire broke out at a hospital in the northeastern German town of Ludwigslust on Thursday.

The blaze started in a patient's room at the Helene-von-Bülow Klinikum before spreading to the roof above the hospital's radiology department, according to local authorities.

Emergency responders evacuated 82 patients as thick smoke filled the building. Most of the injuries were caused by smoke inhalation, and officials said none of the injured are in critical condition.

More than 100 firefighters and emergency personnel responded to the incident and quickly brought the fire under control. The hospital's emergency department was temporarily shut but has since reopened, while unaffected sections of the facility are expected to resume normal operations after safety inspections.

Police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire. The hospital is the only medical facility serving the town of Ludwigslust in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, northeastern Germany.
