Six Abductees Killed by Terrorists in Kaduna Despite Ransom Payments

Six people, including a Catholic catechist and a bride-to-be, have been killed by terrorists after spending about 120 days in captivity, despite months of ransom negotiations and payments by their communities in Kaduna State.

The victims were among 32 residents abducted during a midnight attack on Kutaho and Kugir communities in Aribi Ward, Kagarko Local Government Area, on February 9, 2026. The attackers reportedly stormed the villages, fired gunshots indiscriminately, and forced residents into the forest.

According to community and church sources, residents made significant financial sacrifices to secure the victims' release, with many selling personal belongings and farm produce to raise the ransom demanded by the kidnappers.

The deceased have been identified as Friday Agama, Kunama Dogo, Monday Tanko, Peace Lami Williams, a man identified as Pawpaw's brother, and a Catholic catechist who reportedly died after being subjected to severe torture while in captivity.

Community sources said the kidnappers initially demanded ₦30 million and four motorcycles for the release of the captives. Although negotiations continued and ransom payments were made, the abductors later demanded an additional ₦15 million before agreeing to release the remaining victims.

Residents expressed deep sorrow over the killings, saying their efforts to secure the safe return of all the abductees ultimately failed despite months of fundraising and negotiations. Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
