Russia, Ukraine Exchange Deadly Drone Strikes as Civilian Death Toll Rises

At least 11 people have been killed in the latest wave of drone strikes exchanged between Russia and Ukraine, with civilians among the victims on both sides.

Authorities in the Russian-controlled part of Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia region said a suspected Ukrainian strike on holiday camps in the seaside town of Kyrylivka killed eight people, including two children, and injured 14 others. Ukraine did not immediately comment on the allegation.

Meanwhile, in Ukraine's northeastern Sumy region, a Russian drone attack struck a civilian facility, killing three employees of the Nova Poshta courier company and sparking a large fire, according to local officials.

The attacks came after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned that intelligence reports suggested Russia was preparing a large-scale assault.

Separately, Romania's Defence Ministry announced that its military shot down a drone that entered the country's airspace near the Ukrainian border. President Nicușor Dan said the drone was intercepted by a Romanian Air Force F-16 fighter jet. The incident follows several recent drone incursions affecting Romania, a NATO member, since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine began in 2022.

The latest attacks underscore the continued escalation of the conflict, with both Russia and Ukraine accusing each other of targeting civilian areas while denying such claims themselves.
