The Nigeria Police Force has rescued a 43-year-old woman and her two-year-old son from a kidnappers' forest hideout in Kwara State after a successful intelligence-led operation.
According to the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Aniete Okokon Iniedu, operatives of the Force Intelligence Department–Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT), working alongside local security support groups, launched the operation following credible intelligence that the victims were being held in a forest near Bode Sadu.
The kidnappers reportedly opened fire on the security team but were overpowered after a tactical response, forcing them to flee deeper into the forest. Officers then searched the area and safely rescued the victims, identified as Adijat Kuburat, 43, and her two-year-old son, Abdul Malik Hamzat.
The rescued mother and child have been taken to a medical facility for treatment and are said to be in stable condition.
Police said efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects and dismantle the kidnapping network responsible for the abduction.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, praised the operatives for their bravery and professionalism, reaffirming the Nigeria Police Force's commitment to tackling kidnapping and other violent crimes through sustained intelligence-driven operations.
