Thousands of spectators are gathering along the Champs-Élysées in Paris despite an ongoing heatwave. This year's parade features French armed forces, troops from countries supporting Ukraine, and a contingent of Ukrainian soldiers, highlighting continued European backing for Kyiv as Russia's invasion enters its fifth year.
Speaking ahead of the celebrations, Macron reaffirmed France's commitment to defending freedom, democracy, and the rule of law, while stressing that peace remains the country's ultimate goal.
The national celebration also coincides with the 10th anniversary of the 2016 Nice terror attack, in which 86 people were killed during Bastille Day festivities. A minute of silence is scheduled to honour the victims.
Later today, attention will shift from the parade ground to the football pitch as France faces Spain in the FIFA World Cup semi-final, adding further significance to the country's national day celebrations.
