The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called for the arrest and prosecution of its former Deputy National Chairman, Nafiu Bala Gombe, following allegations that he falsely claimed to have gained access to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nomination portal.
The demand comes after INEC publicly denied Gombe's claim that he obtained the commission's access code and uploaded candidates for the 2027 general election on behalf of the party.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, welcomed INEC's clarification, describing the document circulated by Gombe as forged and his claims as entirely false.
According to the party, falsely claiming access to INEC's restricted nomination platform is a serious matter capable of undermining public confidence in Nigeria's electoral system and damaging the credibility of the electoral commission.
The ADC urged INEC to refer the matter to law enforcement agencies for investigation, insisting that anyone responsible for creating or circulating the alleged false information should be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The party stated that allowing such actions to go unpunished could weaken trust in Nigeria's democratic institutions and electoral process, stressing that the issue goes beyond party politics and concerns the integrity of national institutions.
ADC maintained that protecting the credibility of INEC is essential to ensuring free, fair, and transparent elections ahead of the 2027 general election.
