8 Injured, Including Four Children, in Coney Island Shooting on US Independence Day

At least eight people, including four children, were injured in a shooting late Saturday night in the Coney Island area of Brooklyn, New York, during celebrations marking the United States' 250th Independence Day.

According to the New York Police Department (NYPD), officers responded to reports of gunfire on West 31st Street at approximately 10:37 p.m. local time.

The victims include two men, two women, and four children aged 14, 12, 7, and 6. All were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Authorities said seven victims are in stable condition, while a 21-year-old woman remains in critical condition.

Police recovered a firearm from the scene, but no arrests have been made as investigations continue.

The motive behind the shooting has not yet been determined, and the NYPD is urging anyone with information to come forward.

The incident occurred on a day when millions of Americans were celebrating the nation's 250th Independence Day with fireworks and public events across the country.
