10 Injured, 15 Arrested After Rival Youth Groups Clash in Bauchi

At least 10 people were injured and 15 suspects arrested following a violent clash between rival youth groups from the Tsakuwa and Matsango communities in Azare, Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

According to the Bauchi State Police Command, officers responded swiftly after receiving a distress call reporting the confrontation. Security personnel dispersed the rioters using minimal force, preventing the violence from escalating further.

Police said the injured victims were taken to the Federal University Health Sciences Teaching Hospital in Azare for treatment.

Following the incident, Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu led a team of senior officers to assess the situation, meet with community leaders, and evaluate the police response. He praised security operatives for their prompt action, which helped prevent loss of life and further destruction of property.

The commissioner also visited the affected communities, met with injured victims, and paid a courtesy visit to the Emir of Katagum. He ordered continuous patrols and 24-hour surveillance in the area to prevent retaliatory attacks and directed investigators to uncover the root causes of the violence and prosecute those responsible.

Aliyu urged residents, parents, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and youth groups to remain peaceful and resolve disputes through dialogue, warning that anyone found guilty of involvement in the violence would face the full weight of the law.

The Emir of Katagum commended the police for their professionalism and pledged the support of the emirate in identifying and bringing all perpetrators to justice.

Police confirmed that normalcy is gradually returning to the affected communities. Fifteen suspects are currently in custody, while efforts are ongoing to arrest other individuals linked to the clash. Security has also been strengthened across the area to maintain peace and order.
