Five people have been confirmed dead while eight others sustained serious injuries following a road accident in Agaie Local Government Area of Niger State.
The incident occurred on Sunday and involved a trailer carrying about 40 passengers and a tanker.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Desk Officer in Agaie LGA, Hussaini Guregi, confirmed the accident.
According to him, the trailer was travelling from Gusau in Zamfara State to Shagamu in Ogun State when the crash happened.
He explained that the accident was caused by a faulty tanker parked on the road and an attempt by the passenger trailer to overtake. The trailer lost control while trying to avoid the tanker and crashed.
Five victims died instantly, while the injured passengers were rushed to General Hospital, Agaie, for medical treatment.
The remains of the deceased have been deposited at the hospital mortuary.
