Baba-Ahmed Questions Government’s Response to Rising Insecurity

A senior figure in the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has expressed strong concerns over Nigeria’s worsening security situation, arguing that the federal government has not done enough to protect citizens from rising criminal activities.

Speaking during a television interview on Thursday, Baba-Ahmed said the continued incidents of kidnappings, attacks on communities, and growing insecurity across different parts of the country have weakened public confidence in the government's ability to safeguard lives and property.

According to him, security challenges have expanded to many regions, leaving citizens increasingly vulnerable to criminal groups. He maintained that addressing insecurity should remain the primary responsibility of any government and urged authorities to take more decisive action.

Baba-Ahmed argued that voters should carefully assess the administration's performance ahead of the 2027 general elections, particularly regarding security and public safety. He stated that the country's leadership should be held accountable for its ability to provide protection and maintain stability.

The former presidential adviser stressed that his comments were not intended as a partisan attack but as a reflection of growing public concern over the state of security nationwide. He noted that incidents involving schoolchildren, rural communities, and travelers continue to raise alarm among Nigerians.

He further emphasized that the protection of citizens remains one of the most important duties of government and called for urgent measures to restore confidence in the nation's security architecture.

The remarks come amid ongoing debates among political leaders, civil society groups, and security experts over the best strategies to combat kidnapping, banditry, and other forms of violent crime across Nigeria.
