Australian Man Arrested in Thailand Over Teenager’s Suitcase Murder Case

Thai police have arrested an Australian man suspected of murdering a 17-year-old girl whose body was discovered inside a suitcase near a railway line in Pattaya.

The suspect, identified as 46-year-old Simon Carman, was detained at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport on Friday evening while allegedly attempting to board a flight to Perth, Australia.

Investigators said security camera footage showed the teenager entering a condominium with the man early Thursday. Later footage reportedly showed the suspect leaving the building with a large black suitcase, which he placed on a motorcycle and rode away.

The girl’s body was later found inside the suitcase near the railway tracks. Police said she had suffered serious injuries, including severe bruising to her face.

Authorities began investigating after the teenager’s friends reported her missing. Police tracked her final movements to the room where she was seen with the suspect and alerted immigration officials, leading to his arrest at the airport.

Carman has denied involvement in the killing. Police said they believe he is responsible and are questioning him on suspicion of murder. Officers also said he had scratches on his body that appeared consistent with a struggle.

The suspect faces charges including murder, concealing a body, and taking a minor for an unlawful purpose.

Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade confirmed it is providing consular assistance but declined further comment.
