Argentine Football Star Devastated as Wife, Two Children Die in Venezuela Quake

Argentine footballer Lucas Trejo has lost his wife and two children after a devastating earthquake struck Venezuela.

Trejo, who plays for Venezuelan second-division club Club Sport Marítimo La Guaira, spent three days searching through the rubble of his collapsed home before rescue teams recovered the bodies of his wife, Yanina, and their children, Aaron and Ainhoa.

The tragedy happened after powerful earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 struck Venezuela last week. Trejo was attending a training camp in Caracas when the disaster occurred and rushed back to La Guaira, one of the worst-affected areas.

His club expressed deep sorrow over the loss, saying the footballer was not alone and that the entire team stood with him during the difficult time.

Trejo’s brother-in-law, Ricardo Ardiles, described the scene as heartbreaking, saying the footballer found nothing left of the building where his family lived.

The earthquake disaster has reportedly killed hundreds of people and left many others missing. The tragedy has also affected Venezuela’s football community, with several young players among the victims.

The Venezuelan Football Federation confirmed the deaths of 18-year-old football talent Yimvert Berroteran, as well as young players Víctor Palacios and Razan Sijaa.

Another footballer, Héctor Bello, also lost his partner during the quake after she reportedly protected their young child during the collapse.

The disaster has also claimed the lives of foreign nationals, including Chinese citizens, as rescue operations continue.
