Afghanistan’s Taliban-led government has accused Pakistan of carrying out air strikes that killed at least 13 people, including 11 children, in border provinces late Tuesday.
According to Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid, the attacks targeted areas in Kunar, Khost, and Paktika provinces. He said the victims included 11 children, one woman, and an elderly man, while 14 other women and children were injured.
"We strongly condemn this humanitarian crime and act of aggression," Mujahid said in a statement.
Pakistani authorities had not issued an immediate response to the allegations at the time of reporting. However, Pakistan has previously acknowledged conducting strikes inside Afghanistan, saying it was targeting members of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), a militant group responsible for attacks within Pakistan.
Local officials in Khost province reported that a strike on a residential house in the Spera district killed nine people and injured ten others. Residents in neighboring Paktika province said another attack in Barmal district killed three civilians, including children.
The latest violence came a day after suspected TTP fighters attacked a Pakistani security post in the Hasan Khel area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The assault reportedly left six members of Pakistan’s Federal Constabulary dead and several others wounded.
Tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan have remained high since the Taliban returned to power in 2021. Both countries have repeatedly exchanged accusations over cross-border attacks and support for armed groups operating along their shared frontier.
The United Nations reported in May that cross-border clashes killed at least 372 Afghan civilians and injured 397 others during the first three months of 2026.
A ceasefire agreement reached in March has since collapsed, with both sides accusing each other of violating its terms, raising concerns over further escalation along the border.
