Bandits Abduct Two, Injure Driver in Katsina Highway Attack

Two passengers have been abducted and a driver injured after armed attackers struck a vehicle along the Karaduwa–Matazu Road in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State.

According to the Katsina State Police Command, the incident happened around 11 a.m. on Saturday when armed men intercepted a red Peugeot 406 travelling along the route. The attackers opened fire, injuring the driver, Abdullahi Sa’id, in the arm before forcing two passengers—identified as Abdullahi Batsari and Amina Abdullahi—into captivity.

Police spokesperson DSP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu confirmed that security operatives, including officers from the Divisional Police Office in Matazu and members of the Village Community Response Unit, quickly responded to the distress report. The injured driver was evacuated to a medical facility for treatment.

The Commissioner of Police in Katsina State, Ali Umar-Fage, also visited the scene and ordered additional deployments to support ongoing search-and-rescue operations aimed at securing the victims’ release and arresting the attackers.

Authorities say efforts are continuing to track the suspects, while urging residents to provide useful intelligence that could assist security agencies.

In recent years, parts of northern Nigeria, including areas in Katsina State, have faced recurring incidents of armed banditry, with kidnappings along rural highways becoming a persistent security challenge.
