Iran’s newly appointed Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has said that a “new phase” in managing the Strait of Hormuz will bring stability, calm, and economic benefits to Gulf countries.
In a written statement released on Thursday, he said the developments around the Gulf and the strategic waterway mark a new chapter following the outbreak of conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel earlier this year.
He added that Iran intends to secure the Gulf region and end what he described as “abuse” of maritime routes in the area.
Khamenei also stated that improved management of the Strait of Hormuz would benefit all countries in the region by promoting peace and economic cooperation.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important oil transit routes, making it a key flashpoint in ongoing geopolitical tensions between Iran and Western powers.
