Dua for heavy rain and wind

When heavy rain and strong wind occur, Islam teaches a balanced response: hope, humility, and seeking protection. 

These moments are not just weather events—they are signs of Allah’s power and mercy, but they can also become a test if they bring harm.

Here are authentic duas and adhkar (supplications) to recite during heavy rain, strong wind, or storms in Islam:

Dua During Rain (especially heavy rain).

Arabic: اللَّهُمَّ صَيِّبًا نَافِعًا

Transliteration: 

Allahumma ṣayyiban nāfi‘ā

Meaning: “O Allah, make it beneficial rain.”

This was taught from the Sunnah when rain falls—ask Allah to make it a mercy, not harm.

Dua When Wind Becomes Strong or Dangerous.

Arabic: اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ خَيْرَهَا، وَخَيْرَ مَا فِيهَا، وَخَيْرَ مَا أُرْسِلَتْ بِهِ،

وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّهَا، وَشَرِّ مَا فِيهَا، وَشَرِّ مَا أُرْسِلَتْ بِهِ

Transliteration: 

Allahumma inni as’aluka khayrahā, wa khayra mā fīhā, wa khayra mā ursilat bih,

wa a‘ūdhu bika min sharrihā, wa sharri mā fīhā, wa sharri mā ursilat bih

Meaning: “O Allah, I ask You for its good, the good within it, and the good it was sent with;

and I seek refuge in You from its evil, the evil within it, and the evil it was sent with.”

Dua During Severe Storm, Thunder & Fear.

When you feel fear due to strong wind, thunder, or storm:

Arabic: اللَّهُمَّ لَا تَقْتُلْنَا بِغَضَبِكَ، وَلَا تُهْلِكْنَا بِعَذَابِكَ، وَعَافِنَا قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ

Transliteration: 

Allahumma lā taqtulnā bighaḍabik, wa lā tuhliknā bi‘adhābik, wa ‘āfinā qabla dhālik

Meaning: “O Allah, do not destroy us with Your غضب (anger), and do not punish us with Your punishment, and grant us safety before that.”

When Hearing Thunder.

Arabic:

 سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي يُسَبِّحُ الرَّعْدُ بِحَمْدِهِ وَالْمَلَائِكَةُ مِنْ خِيفَتِهِ

Transliteration: 

Subḥānalladhī yusabbiḥu ar-ra‘du biḥamdihī wal-malā’ikatu min khīfatih

Meaning: “Glory is to Him whom thunder praises with His glory, and the angels out of fear of Him.”

Important Reminder.

Rain is a time when duas are accepted, so make personal supplications.

Seek protection, but also ask for barakah (blessing) in the rain.

Avoid saying anything negative about natural events—everything is under Allah’s command.
