Niyyat for fasting 6 days of shawwal.

Niyyat for fasting 6 days of shawwal.

The niyyah (intention) for fasting the six days of Shawwal is simple and is made in the heart. You do not need to say it out loud, but you can if it helps you.

Niyyah in Arabic:
نَوَيْتُ صَوْمَ سِتَّةِ أَيَّامٍ مِنْ شَوَّالٍ سُنَّةً لِلَّهِ تَعَالَى

Transliteration: Nawaitu sawma sittati ayyāmin min Shawwāl sunnatan lillāhi ta‘ālā.

Meaning: “I intend to fast six days of Shawwal as a Sunnah for the sake of Allah.”

Important Notes:
The intention should be made before Fajr each day you plan to fast.
The Prophet Prophet Muhammad taught that actions are judged by intentions, so sincerity matters more than wording.

It is a Sunnah fast, recommended by the Prophet Prophet Muhammad.

You may fast the 6 days continuously or separately throughout the month of Shawwal.

Virtue:
The Messenger of Allah Prophet Muhammad said:

> “Whoever fasts Ramadan and follows it with six days of Shawwal, it is as if he fasted the whole year.” (Muslim).
